What is Etui Records?
Etui Records is a record label from Dresden for spheric / dub techno. It has been founded by Insect O. The label is working with artists such aus Monomood from Berlin, Echo Inspectors from Melbourne, Hydergine and Drafted from Italy, Alessandro Crimi and Idealist from Switzerland or Patrick Zigon and Frank Hellmond from Lake Constance. Also music by Marko Furstenberg and Quantec has been released on colored vinyl.
Daniel Madlung aka Dandtytracks designs the artwork. He is also co-designer at the artwork team of DAVE Festival.
Beside that there is a label podcast, on which I introduce label artists or interesting djs I met on my travelings – Dave Stuart and Trinity from Sydney or Ocean Lam from Hong Kong for example.
How did it start?
It started with the club Flugzeugwerft back in 1996. It has been the first bigger stage for me to present my music as Insect O. live. I was part of the promoters. We booked Phuture 303, Daniel Bell, Jay Denham, Porter Ricks or Alec Empire. In cooperation with DJ Doorkeeper and Object we also presented the noU.F.O. tour with Derrick May. I would say, Flugzeugwerft also shaped the quote “Dresden is the little Detroit of the east” cialis versandapotheke. We had guests visiting from Dresden, Berlin, Chemnitz, Leipzig. Often we went to Hardwax Dresden for record shopping with the djs .
In 1998 we had to close Flugzeugwerft due authority restriction. So the first release was dedicated to the venu. I wanted to carry on the ragin spirit of that time. I was 21 years old, really good in bookkeeping and I was very interessted in the production process from the first sounds of the music to the final product. So I founded Etui Records to release my own music.
From 2006 I run the label with Soren Matschiste. We opened the label also for other artists, worked close with Alex Carbo and found new artists such as Alec Troniq. In 2010 Soren found his musical homebase at Uncanny Valley under his new moniker Sandrow M.
At the Moxxom festival in 2011 I met Monomood for the first time. With his Oktrosis he brought new musical inspirition to the label. So we started the colored vinyl series.
25 vinyl releases, 10 digital releases and 5 compilaions have been released so far.
What characterizes Etui Records?
Tousends of people around the world love Dub Techno. Etui Records is giving this music cosmos a stage. The label sound also changed over time. With the new colored vinyl series its focused back on the musical roots.
But we not only interprete Dub Techno in the classical way of the old masters like Basic Channel. It leaves also space for experimentation. The hyptnotic impact of the music is important to be released.
Also a friendly cooperation with the artists is a key role. We are discussing and sharing our thoughts and ideas. At the end everythings comes down to the passion of music.
For whom do you do that?
We are getting great feedback from all over the world. In our bandcamp shop we have orders from Australia, Hong Kong, Ukraine, USA or Chile. In the western world Techno is may an old thing. But there are so many people around the world – especially young poeple, who are discovering that kind music every day.
When I met Echo Inspectors in Melbourne for the first time, it felt like beeing friends since ages. Also for such moments I do it. Music is connecting people.
What’s next?
We are invited for a label night at TBA Club in Dresden by Syndikat / Unikat on May 26th. Planetary Secrets, Insect O. and Szentendre will playing records. On May 30th ETUILTD010 Varouis Artists – Decade Dubs will be released on smokey marbled vinyl with tracks by Hydergine, Monomood, El Choop and Insect O. The artwork is designed by Daniel Madlung and it´s based on a photo of the Sea of Sand at Indonesia’s Mt. Bromo volcano.
The first full lenght is planed for the end of the year with a presentation at DAVE festival.
